MAY 17 - WHEELS!

May 17, 2019 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury.  3rd Friday will be held outdoors weather permitting with artists and crafters filling the streets, live music on the Plaza, fun themes and special events.  This month’s theme is Wheels – so get to ready bicycles, roller skates, skate boards, and more!

This month, 3rd Friday will be experimenting with a new footprint.  Artists and crafters will still gather on the Plaza – but the rest of the fun is moving down to Lot 15 and W. Market Street, in front of The Acorn Market and Angello’s Unique Gifts, instead of the N. Division Street area.  It’s Bike to Work Week in the City of Salisbury, so finish the week strong, and bike to 3rd Friday – enjoy a free bike valet from 5 – 8 pm courtesy of Salisbury’s BPAC – Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee in Lot 15.

Check out the Get Ramped pop-up skate park – also in Lot 15– with a variety of ramps and rails suited for all skill levels.  Kids of all ages can participate, so bring your helmet and parent or guardian if you are under 18 years old to ride all night at no charge - bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, and scooters welcome.  Become a permanent part of Salisbury Skatepark with the Paint-It-Yourself Tile fundraiser – offering $15 tiles that can be decorated anyway you wish, that will be included on a mosaic wall that greets everyone as they enter the park.

Nothing says wheels like a Pinewood Derby!  Tri-County District 2nd Annual Corporate Pinewood Derby gives adults and businesses the chance to pit teams against one another – all in the name of raising funds for the Boy Scouts.  Car check in begins at 5 p.m. with the racing starting at 6 p.m. right in front of Acorn Market, with a Pit Party immediately following the race.   Plus, stop in Angello’s Unique Gifts for a chocolate tasting and other goodies!

On the Plaza, it’s the special grand opening celebrations for two new businesses.  Check out the Grand Opening for Lurking Class Skate Shops new location at the bottom of the Plaza, with lots of sales, raffles and giveaways.  Plus, check out Kaiju Records in the City Center Building – Downtown Salisbury’s very own record store, complete with DJ Mikey J spinning an all-vinyl drum & bass set during 3rd Friday.

AMP Studios talented rock bands will perform on the Plaza, and at 5 p.m. SPD Officer Aaron “Bull” Hudson will posthumously receive the William Donald Shaefer Award from the State of MD Comptroller’s Office, with remarks from Mayor Day.   St. Peters Church will have kids’ activities and burgers and dogs in the courtyard at great prices.  Plus, the Downtown Salisbury Visitor Center will be sticking with the “Wheels” theme, hosting a free Build Your Own Pinwheel craft from 5 to 8 p.m.

In the Gallery Building, on the lowest level – Salisbury Art Space will host the Annual Blooming Artists Showcase – an entire show filled with works from kids K through 12, in all mediums and at 6 p.m., the winners of the 2019 Lower Shore Addiction Awareness Visual Arts Competition will be announced – also on display in Salisbury Art Space.  Upstairs on the Plaza Level, Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campus will be hosting its first ever Affordable Arts Fair – offering wall space, and table space to local artisans during 3rd Friday be sure to stop in for great shopping, and to nab your next piece of local art.

The downtown bars and restaurants are ready with live music for 3rd Friday.  Brew River has party band The Glass Onion playing all your favorites from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Roadie Joe’s Bar and Grill will live music Smooth and Remy from 6 – 9 p.m. and late night DJ.   Market Street Inn will have late night jams by Nick at Night, and Mojos will have DY Vybe spinning all your favorites.

Downtown Trolley service will start earlier than usual for 3rd Friday.  Trolley service begins at 6:15 p.m. in front of the Guerrieri Academic Commons and will run until 2 a.m.   Boarding is free with a Gull Card or $1 otherwise and will bring you from Salisbury University and surrounding areas to Downtown Salisbury.

In the event of rain - all indoor activities will go on as planned.  The outdoor activities, including art and craft vendors, may be canceled due to inclement weather - an announcement will be made no later than noon on 3rd Friday.

3rd Friday is a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District in partnership with The City of Salisbury.

To be a vendor at 3rd Friday you must be an artist, crafter or non-profit organization, and you must pre-register by emailing a description of what you hope to set-up to 3rdFridaySby@gmail.com
