Salisbury, MD: September 17, 2021 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury. 3rd Friday will be held outdoors with artists and crafters filling the streets, live music, and special events. This month’s theme is Urban Artscapes – with chalk art, architecture highlights, the Matthew Bennett Davey Band and more.

What is if rains? 3rd Friday will continue RAIN OR SHINE - but outdoor activities and vendor turnout could be affected by rain showers.

All indoor activities will continue as planned.


Urban Artscapes is all about appreciating the beauty of Downtown Salisbury’s cityscape, and enjoying the color and vibrancy art can bring to urban areas. Stop by the 3rd Friday table for a copy of the Downtown Salisbury Architectural Walking Tour full of information about the many historic and architecturally significant buildings, or a copy of the Public Art Walking Tour for a complete list of Downtown’s murals, sculptures and painted power boxes, plus a fun scavenger hunt will announced on Friday at 5 p.m. St. Peters Episcopal Church will be hosting tours, and invites all to stop by and enjoy their stained glass and amazing history – as well as burgers and dogs fresh off the grill in the courtyard.

3rd Friday participants can help add color to Downtown Salisbury by participating in chalk art activities throughout the event footprint. Wicomico Goes Purple is bringing color to Downtown with the announcement of the 2021 Wicomico Goes Purple Downtown Window Decorating Competition winners –keep an eye out for all the store fronts decked out in purple this month in support of opioid addiction awareness and recovery support. Blackwater Apothecary went a step further, with a temporary art installation titled “Letters to the Lost | Letters to the Living”, with submissions from local community members.

For more art in an urban landscape, 3rd Friday will host the Matthew Bennett Davey Band live on Government Office Building Steps, bringing reggae, funk, rock and blues. Check out live raku pottery firing on Main Street hosted by David Smith and Salisbury Art Space.


Enjoy pop culture on the Riverwalk with SBY Movies on the River, this month featuring Inception (PG-13) with its mind-bending urban illusions and an 8 p.m. showtime. On Sunday, check out free Shakespeare at Riverwalk Amphitheater with Brown Box Theatre Project’s presentation of Much Ado Nothing with a 7:30 p.m. showtime.


Art fans, check out FLOW on display at Salisbury University Art Galleries. FLOW is an exhibition that celebrates art evolving from a sentient experience rather than conscious thought. It presents artworks on the transcendence of the mind and the mind's ability to explore surreal and abstract ideas, therefore connecting the perception of life with what exists around and beyond us. FLOW will feature painting, sculpture, and immersive installation, and will be open for a special reception on 3rd Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.


Salisbury Art Space will be open with its 2021 Members Exhibition on display. This annual show shines a spotlight on the talents for Salisbury Art Space’s ‘most valuable players’: its members! The show has been sponsored by The Whaley Family Foundation and judged by Salisbury University Fine Art Professor Jinchul Kim, with the work of Jinchul Kim’s students on display in the Foyer Gallery, and the work of U.M.E.S Sequential Arts Professors Elvin Hernandez and Bradley Hudson on display in Salisbury Art Space’s Robinson Gallery.

3rd Friday will no longer require facemasks for outdoor activities, but please remember masks could still be required inside - including in the Salisbury University Building on the Plaza. The 3rd Friday virtual event on Facebook will continue to share event and community highlights for those who choose to continue to social distance. 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury | August 20, 2021 – WATER WORLD


RAIN PLAN ANNOUNCED – EVENT SCOPE REDUCED


Salisbury, MD: 3rd Friday is tonight, August 20, 2021 in Downtown Salisbury from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Due to the threat of rain, the scope of the event has been reduced slightly.


Vendors will be located on the Plaza only, and water activities will not be held, but many indoor activities will continue as planned! Local rock band The Queen’s Bishop will now play on St. Peter's Street - with a perfect balance of musical genres just like your favorite variety station.


Salisbury Art Space will host the opening reception for its 2021 Members Exhibition. This annual show shines a spotlight on the talents for Salisbury Art Space’s ‘most valuable players’: its members! The show has been sponsored by The Whaley Family Foundation and judged by Salisbury University Fine Art Professor Jinchul Kim. Winners will be announced during the opening reception to be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Additionally, the work of Jinchul Kim will be on display in the Foyer Gallery, and the work of U.M.E.S Sequential Arts Professors Elvin Hernandez and Bradley Hudson will be on display in the Robinson Gallery. Salisbury Art Space is located on the lowest level of the Salisbury University Building.

Blackwater Apothecary will be open, with a special labradorite sphere and lotus stand giveaway, and an interactive art installation titled “Letters to the Lost: Letters to the Living” in conjunction with Wicomico Goes Purple. The community is invited to participate and contribute, to help shine a light on the opioid crisis and the resources and hope that is available. Blackwater Apothecary is located on the second floor of City Center Building.


Due to the threat of rain, The Mane Event will now take place inside The Brick Room. The Mane Event is a special fundraising and awareness event, where local long-haired women will be auctioning off sections of their hair to make wigs for those with medical hair loss in honor of the memory of Ashley Gilkerson.


The Mane Event will donate locks lovingly chopped by Edit Hair Salon to Hair We Share, and all proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Ashley’s preferred charity.


SBY Movies on the River will be cancelled for the evening, and North Division Street and E. Main Street from Main to Court Street will remain open to traffic.

This month’s theme is Water World – so you can stay cool - with wacky water misters, bubbles and water themed activities.

Water World wouldn’t be complete without getting wet! Check out the 3rd Friday Splash Zone on E. Main Street with mister tents, and wacky water toys just down the street from the complimentary bike valet.


On N. Division Street, there will be live music from local rock band The Queen’s Bishop with a perfect balance of musical genres just like your favorite variety station.
