3rd Friday Oct 15th - SUPER HERO EDITION

Updated: Oct 14, 2021

Salisbury, MD: October 15, 2021 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury. 3rd Friday will be held outdoors with artists and crafters filling the streets, live music, and special events. This month’s theme is Super Heroes – so get ready for comics, cosplay and real-life super heroes.

Costumes are encouraged this 3rd Friday, and rewarded --just look for the seven- foot-tall inflatable Batman, and you will find the 3rd Friday Prize Wheel.

UPDATE!! Batman got called away by Commissioner Gordon - instead - look for the 5 foot inflatable Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man :)

Costumed participants can spin the prize wheel for a chance to win big – including specially-curated prizes courtesy of Ocean City Comic Con. Not costumed - that’s okay too – compete in feats of strength for chances to spin.

Kids can also enjoy super-hero themed crafts courtesy of Salisbury University’s Honors College, practice super-hero poses and take super-pics with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore , and meet real-life heroes from the Salisbury Fire Department who will be out in full force for Fire Prevention Month, with cool gear and info about how to become a fire fighter!

Entertainment abounds with live music by The New Kings of Delaware on the N. Division Street stage, plus a special Halloween performance by local dance troupe Feet of Fire at 6 p.m. SBY’s Movie’s on the River is hosting its free Halloween Double Feature with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (PG) at 7:00 p.m. and Guardians of the Galaxy (PG-13) at 9:00 p.m. at the Pohanka Riverwalk Amphitheater. Revival, Salisbury’s all-new entertainment venue, is hosting the Delaware Comedy Theater for a night of adult improv comedy, with tickets only $15 and a showtime at 8 p.m.

Shoppers always have fun at 3rd Fridays with street vendors, and local retailers. This month, Lilac Clothing Company has 20% off new fall styles, a prize-pumpkin full of discounts up to 50% off and a free gift with purchases over $100.

The MudHud: Clay Art Studio has lots of Halloween themed Paint-Your-Own-Pottery in stock and on sale at their new location on the Plaza, plus check out their Clay and Karaoke event from 5 – 10 p.m and Halloween Block Party on October 23, 2021.

Art fans, check out Salisbury University Art Galleries exhibition FLOW, that celebrates art evolving from a sentient experience rather than conscious thought, and includes painting, sculpture and immersive installations from local and regional artists. Artists include Ben Ridgway, Stacy Pants, Sam Parker, Claire Sweet, Sweetbones, WINGCHOW, and Wonkybier.

Salisbury Art Space will also be open with an all-new exhibition titled Contemporary Abstraction, with local works submitted that celebrate the many forms of abstraction; from distortion and exaggeration, to truly non-objective works with no recognizable subject – an art form that many artists find so liberating! Salisbury Art Space will host an awards ceremony and special reception on 3rd Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and a special exhibition from Erika L. Forsythe of ELF Moments of Zen Photography. Both Salisbury Art Space, and Salisbury University Art Galleries are located in the SU Building on the Plaza.

Need a ride? The Downtown Trolley will be offering free rides to 3rd Friday to students, faculty and staff, running a continuous loop from SU Academic Commons to 3rd Friday from 4:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Free Bike Valet service will also be offered from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. hosted by Salisbury’s B-PAC Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Bike SBY.

3rd Friday will no longer require facemasks for outdoor activities, but please remember masks could still be required inside certain buildings and businesses. The 3rd Friday’s virtual event on Facebook will continue to share event and community highlights for those who choose to continue to social distance.

3rd Friday is a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District, in partnership with The City of Salisbury. For More Information: 3rdFridaySby.com
